China Merchants Port (China Merchants Port Holdings Company Limited, HKEX: 144) is the flagship Company of the China Merchants Group. It was founded in 1992 and was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange as a red chip Company in the same year It was the first Red Chip Company to list in Hong Kong. In September 2004, it became one of the 33 Hang Seng Index (Blue Chip) companies in Hong Kong. The old name of the China Merchants Port.
China Merchants Port's main businesses are ports, container production and related businesses, toll roads, real estate, and oil tankers. The company is registered in Hong Kong and is chaired by Fu Gangfeng, but has sold its paint manufacturing and road business.
On June 20, 2018, China Merchants Port and Shenzhen Chiwan will restructure their assets. According to the agreement, Shenzhen Chiwan port and airlines will invest RMB 24.65 billion yuan in China merchants and acquire 1.269 billion shares of China Merchants Port, equivalent to 38.72% of the shares to pay for the acquisition, Shenzhen Chiwan will issue 1.148 BN A-shares, or 64.05 percent, to China Merchants Group. Upon completion of the restructuring, China Merchants Group will indirectly hold 87.8 percent of Chiwan in Shenzhen and will remain the ultimate controlling shareholder of China Merchants Port.
